  1. THE WAY OF SALVATION

  2. THE WAY OF SALVATION The 8th study in the series. Studies written by William Carey. Presentation by Michael Salzman. All texts are from the New King James version. All rights reserved.

  3. THE WAY OF SALVATION • The supreme question before every person in this world today is: “What must I do to have eternal life?” • Matthew 19:16 • Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”

  4. 1-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION Eternal life in God’s kingdom is worth more than all this world. Matthew 16:26 “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?

  5. 1-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION • If we lose eternal life and the eternal home in heaven, we have lost everything.

  6. 2-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION • What will keep us out of Heaven? • Revelation 21:27 • But there shall by no means enter itanything that defiles, or causes an abomination or lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

  7. 2-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION Nothing that defiles can enter into God’s city, and since sin is what defiles, that means we must get rid of every sin before we can be ready for a home in heaven. We can have our names recorded in the book of life when we receive Jesus as our personal Saviour from the power and penalty of sin (Rom. 6:23, John 1:12).

  8. 3-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION • If we are a citizen of where we are born, how do we become a citizen of heaven? • John 3:3, 5 • Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

  9. 3-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION 5- Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. • To become a citizen of heaven, we must be born again (or from above) of the Spirit and of the water. This is conversion (Matthew 18:3).

  10. 4-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION • Eternal salvation will be given only to those who obey Jesus. • Hebrews 5:9 • And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey him. • What three things are required to make a sinner right with God?

  11. 4-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION 1. Pardon or forgiveness of all his sins, which is JUSTIFICATION. 2. Being born again, or the new birth, which is REGENERATION. 3. Obedience to all of God’s instructions each day through the indwelling of Christ in his heart by the Holy Spirit, which is SANCTIFICATION.

  12. 5-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION • Consider these six important questions. 1. On what conditions does God forgive our sins? • Psalms 32:5 • I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confessmy transgressions to the LORD,”And You forgavethe iniquity of my sin.

  13. 5-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION • God forgives our sins on three conditions: Repentance, Confession, and Faith in the Lord Jesus as our personal Saviour and Sin Bearer. Repentance is accompanied by Godly sorrow, which leads us to turn from all that we know is wrong. It is produced in the heart by the Holy Spirit, and will be given to everyone who yields to the convicting, drawing power of the Spirit.

  14. 6-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION We are to confess the very sins of which we are guilty (Lev. 5:5). 2. How can I know that all my sins are forgiven now? • I John 1:9 • If we confessour sins, He is faithful and just to forgive usour sins and to cleanseus from all unrighteousness.

  15. 6-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION • Simply by complying with God’s condition of repentance and confession we are forgiven. I must believe that I am pardoned and thank God for forgiveness.

  16. 7-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION • What other thing should we ask God for when we are confessing our sins? • Psalms 51:7, 10 • Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 10- Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

  17. 8-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION • Along with our prayer for pardon we must ask God to give us a new heart, a clean heart, and a new life from above. 3. How can I obtain this new heart and be born again? • John 1:12, 13 • But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become the children of God, to those who believe in His name:

  18. 8-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION 13- Who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. • RECEIVE JESUS into your heart, and you will be born again. Surrender your will to Jesus, and He will create in you a new heart.

  19. 9-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION 4. How can I know that I have been born again and have a new heart? • II Corinthians 5:17 • Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

  20. 9-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION The supreme proof of the changed heart is the changed life. The old habits of sin have passed away, and we live in newness of life unto God. The things that we once did not care for such as reading the Bible, going to church, praying, working for other souls, we now love; and the worldly things we once loved, we now do not care for.

  21. 10-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION • Ezekiel 11:19, 20 • “Then I will give them one heart, and I will put a new spirit within them, and take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh,

  22. 10-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION 20- “that they may walk in My statutes and keep My judgments and do them; and they shall be My people, and I will be their God. • God gives us a new heart so we can obey His precepts. If you purpose to do just what God commands, you have a new heart.

  23. 11-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION It is impossible for the sinner to obey God unless he has a new heart (Rom. 8:6-9). 5. How can I live a true Christian life? • Galatians 2:20 • “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longerIwho live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh Ilive by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

  24. 11-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION Living a Christian life is being so surrendered to Jesus that He can live His life in us each day. This is the only way anyone can ever live a true Christian life. After you receive that new heart, Jesus is to live in your heart every day, working in you that which is well-pleasing in His sight.

  25. 11-WSTHE WAY OF SALVATION Your part is to ABIDE IN HIM by consecration, prayer, and feeding on HIS word; then He will abide in you each day. (John 15:4-6)

  26. 12-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION 6. How can I know that I am living a Christian life? • I John 3:24; 2:3,4 • Now he who keeps His commandments abides in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

  27. 12-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION 2:3- Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4- He that says, “I know Him,” and does notkeepHis commandments, is a lair, and the truth is not in him.

  28. 12-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION We know we are living a Christian life by a daily life of obedience to all His commands. Salvation is always FROM sin, never IN sin (Matt. 1:21).

  29. 12-WS THE WAY OF SALVATION The Christian life is the life of Christ, His perfect obedience, lived by faith. Is this the life that you would like to have today?
