  1. POINTILLISM

  2. GEORGE SEURAT- POINTILLISM 1859-91 He was a famous painter of the Impressionist movement. These were a group of painters who totally changed the history of artstepping aside all traditional art. They started painting based on light; portraying light withvarious colors .This was done with small brushstrokes of different colors placed next to each other. When these paintings were seen closely they seemed blurry but when seen from a distance the different colors blended in the eye and the composition could be defined.

  3. POINTILLISM The same effect is done in POINTILLISM. Instead of brushstrokes they used points. At the beginning these artists were not accepted, their paintings were considered childish .Critics said they were just giving the impression of what they wanted to depict and from there they got the name; THE IMPRESSIONISTS. GEORGE SEURAT started POINTILLISM. His most famous paintings are about bathers and about the island of La Grande Jatte.

CUBISM- STUDY FROM HERE ON FOR TEST Pablo Picasso was a famous, innovative Spanish painter who was strongly influenced by the Impressionists. He and his friend George Braque started creating a new style which was later known as CUBISM. His figures were based in geometric figures and at the same time a figure could be seen in profile and front ward;inmotion. There is no sense of perspective and usually vivid colors are used.

  11. MOSAICS Were first used during the Roman Empire mostly in Ravenna in the basilica of Saint Apollinaire. Mosaics were done in small pieces of stone, glass or ceramics pasted with cement on walls. During this stage, according to the Emperor Constantine, no images were accepted inside the churches so they created beautiful mosaics portraying biblical scenes .This way they were narrating them to everyone especially the illiterates. The figures seem extremely rigid with no expression on their faces.

  12. Nowadays mosaics are still done and in most of them different materials are used. The most popular are done with paper but as we have seen mosaics can be done in any materials; coins, cupcakes, legos, photographs etc.
