Directions Materials: 9x12 Paper Pencils Butterfly Tracers Fine Tipped Color Markers Instructions: • Have students trace the butterfly into the center of their paper. • Discuss how butterfly’s wings are mirror images of one another. They have the same pattern on both wings (same shapes, same colors in the same places). • Students should trace the outside of the butterfly in a bold color of their choice. • Next draw the body in the center of the butterfly utilizing the dots of Pointillism. Instead of using a line to draw the body use a series of dots to draw the outline of the body. Demonstrate this method on the wipe board. • Add antennae and the face using dots. • Have students outline patterns in dots that are close together . Make sure they are using mirror image on both wings. Demonstrate an example on the board. • Fill in the wings with small dots utilizing different colors in different shapes of the pattern. Remember that the wings should look the same.
