Students will be… • Focused on Learning • Prepared • Involved • Positive in Words & Actions • Role Models • Friendly & Respectful • Students have created t-shirts based on this goal and will be rewarded with Epic Legacy certificates throughout the year.
Language Arts • Based on district curriculum and state standards Common Core • Read every day • Readers’ & Writers’ Institute – emphasis on process, not product • Social and emotional growth • Self assessment is valued – targets, reflection pieces, etc.
Math • Online textbook is a valuable resource • Quality of work matters – not just time spent • Self-directed learning is key • Occasional struggles are OK • Teachers are here to help – request an appointment
Science • Activity- and inquiry –based • Students make discoveries • Discuss science targets with students • Attendance is essential • Make an appointment - science teachers are available before and after school, as well as during Supervised Study
Social Science • Students will be able to successfully meet district targets in U.S. History by: • Historical reading skills • Folder, textbook, assignments • Listening carefully and following directions • Asking questions • Completing assignments carefully and on time • Always being respectful

The Role of the Teachers/Team • Supervised Study • Make appointment with teacher to review • Peer tutoring – coming soon! • Communication • Monthly newsletter • Team site • Epic Legacy awards, contact home for positives • Getting in touch • Please email us! • Whole-child learning • Educate academically, socially, emotionally, etc. • Redo/Retake assignments - Varies by teacher/assignment; requires action plan
The Role of the Student • Initial assignment • Read & reread directions & target • Review notes and/or section in textbook • Ask for help/clarification when the assignment is first given • Check Homework Connection & Canvas (especially in the case of an absence) • After the assignment is scored • Read over your score and comments • Make an appointment with teacher during Sup. Study to discuss work • Make an appointment to meet with teacher, family & student (last option)
The Role of the Family • Infinite Campus - 24/7 access to grades, comments, etc. -No surprises! Once a grade is entered, it’s “live” • Shows scores, comments, and other notes from teachers (missing, exempt, late, etc.) • Family conversations • At least once a week • Review Infinite Campus, progress, strengths, accomplishments, areas that need improvement • Ask to see artifacts/examples of work • Self-advocacy • Encourage students to meet with teachers to problem solve • Set up teacher/family/student conference after all other strategies have been exhausted
