  2. Learning Intentions • Staff will be aware of the benefit in using the IWB in teaching and Learning • Staff will know that the IWB is more than just a presentation tool • Staff will be able to use the ACTIVstudio Tools & Resources appropriately during the workshop activities

Key Questions • What can teachers aim to achieve in using the Interactive Whiteboard? • How can teachers use the IWB in their teaching? • What are the perceived benefits of using the IWB? • What are the perceived difficulties of using the IWB? • How does the IWB change how teachers teach and learners learn?

  5. What is an IWB?

  6. Why use an IWB? • To improve teaching and learning • Presentation, demonstration and modelling • Motivation - actively engaging pupils • Improving the pace and flow of lessons & saves time over time

  7. Advantages An IWB can: • Be a dynamic class teaching tool • Enable enhanced presentation of content in an enjoyable, visually stimulating way • Help students to absorb information more easily (VAK) • Encourage students to participate in classroom discussions by freeing them from note-taking • Promote collaborative learning

  8. Disadvantages • Initial technical difficulties are not uncommon • Poor visibility and accessibility can be a problem • Inexperienced use of the IWB reduces its value • IWB may have a detrimental effect on pedagogic approaches
