  1. Group B – Engaging New & Diverse Groups Best Practices for YP & Other Groups Moderator: Past Director

  2. Engaging Industry Segments • IEEE & industry will work out a separate module for each industry segment for the benefit of new industry recruits • Will include multiple webinars • Have a meeting at a local industry site • Hold industry specific day events • Students want access to industry leaders; invite students to IEEE industry events • Develop an online template for emerging technology areas • Future of systems engineering segment

  3. Attracting Industries to IEEE Events • Symposium (one-day) with industry tables showcasing their products • E.g., AP/MTT Minishow by North Jersey Section • Small training courses (e.g., New Hampshire Section) for engineers • Access to conferences and holding conferences with industry cooperation always raise interest about IEEE among technical folks • Awards to industry leaders in Section events raise awareness and interest among industry executives • Can arrange to have technical talks on industry sites • Friend of IEEE company award

  4. WIE Events • WIE affinity group at a company (e.g., ConEd) attracts new members • Brown bag lunch talks go well • Critical mass in a company is essential • Working with an existing btechnically specific group (e.g., Women in Power) can draw new recruits • WIE East event since 2009; • Will be held at New York this year • 5/6 industry sponsors • SWE & WIE are different • attracting SWE engineers to WIE is difficult • SWE more into social & humanitarian services • WIE more into technical stuff

  5. YP Events • Building circuit boards; hackathons • Airsoft, hiking, rafting, and other social events • Provide YouTube video or WebEx for folks not present • Rising Stars, Future Leaders Forum not working too well in Northwest • YP Northwest for Vancouver-Seattle areas; quite a few technical and social meetings per year • Sessions on manager on manager with industries (distinct from student level engagement) • Mentoring for YP & WIE by senior members or fellows • Region 4 has done something like that
