Disclaimers • This is a preview of the 2011-2012 FAFSA on the Web (FOTW) site. • The web site is subject to change and OMB approval prior to system implementation on January 1, 2011. • Some slides in this presentation have additional notes, which can be accessed through the notes view. Simplification Objectives • Federal Student Aid (FSA) made a number of additional simplification enhancements to the FOTW site for the 2011-2012 application processing cycle with the following goals in mind. • Provide a more intuitive web experience • Fully integrate all the application components • Continue to provide access to IRS tax information • Reduce redundancy in the financial aid application experience

Simplified Secure Access – New Applicant • PIN and Password requirements will be dynamically determined by the system
Help and Hints now have question labels and question numbers for easier reference. Formatting on date fields, telephone number, and financial fields. The system automatically saves the application at the end of each step. “Clear All Data” allows an applicant delete their data from the system anytime prior to submission. Enhanced Functionality
Presented to students who indicate a high school diploma and Never attended college / 1st yr. or Attended college before / 1st yr. High School Question Functionality
High School Question • Student enters the name, city and state of the high school they attended • Student selects Confirm to retrieve the results

Student can Select the school attended from the list. If the student does not find the school on the list, the student selects Next to continue and the search criteria are saved. High School Search Results – Matches Found
If no matches are found, the student selects Next to continue and the search criteria are saved. High School Search Results – No Matches Found
School Selection Step • Student may enter up to 10 colleges by entering Federal School Code or Searching on State, City or School Name
New School Code Features • The student can page through the search results • Can also view detailed information for a school before & after adding the school to their FAFSA
New – Re-ordering Schools • The student may move the position order of schools by placing the cursor in the row of the school they want moved. • Then by using the up and down arrows can change the position of the school.
View Selected School Information • The student may compare information on as many as ten schools by selecting the View Selected School Information button
Financial Information • The IRS Data Retrieval continues in 2011-2012 beginning January 30, 2011. • Also available in Corrections • Electronically filed tax return information will be available from the IRS in 1-2 weeks, data from paper tax returns will be available in 6-8 weeks.
IRS Data Retrieval • Once the applicant has successfully authenticated, tax data will be presented and the applicant will have the option to “Transfer” the tax information to the FAFSA • Transferred data will have a notation - “Transferred from the IRS”
IRS Request Flag Values • IRS Request Flag on ISIR will be populated
Parents of dependent students and independent students will be presented with the asset net worth threshold question, if they are not eligible for auto-zero or simplified needs test; and if the student’s state of legal residence allows the applicant to skip the asset question. Asset Net Worth Threshold • If answer is “yes”, the three asset questions will display. • If answer is “no”, the asset questions will not display, as we do not need to count the asset value in the calculation of the EFC.
Sign and Submit • “Print signature page” will appear if that option is selected.
Signature Enhancements • A student and parent can enter their PIN and click “Sign” and the system will retain the signature. This allows parents and students to sign and submit separately.
View FAFSA Summary • The View FAFSA Summary button takes the student to a summary of their data.
Confirmation Page • Redesigned for clarity. Includes - • Confirmation Number • Data Release Number (DRN) • EFC estimate • Pell Grant and Direct Loan estimates • Option for parents to transfer info to an application for a sibling • Option to transfer info to a state application if state participates in API • Rates for each college on the FAFSA
State API Expansion • Will allow students to transfer information from the FAFSA to a state application • Option offered on confirmation page only
Processed Successfully – Applicant Can Make Correction • The student would be able to view the Electronic SAR or make corrections if needed.
Corrections Required • The student would be notified that a correction was needed.
Multiple Corrections • When a student has multiple corrections they will be able to access a corrections history. • We also will display information about the original submission and latest correction submission
“Submitted By” Values • Latest correction field indicates who submitted the correction: Student, College or FSA System • “Student” displays if the correction was done by the student using FOTW, a SAR, or if student called customer service for a correction • “College” displays if correction was done by a FAA • “System” displays if the correction was generated by the CPS.
Correction History • Correction History provides access to a summary of processed information for each of the student’s transactions. • Student can opt correct a specific transaction from the history view.
