Aggregation of Upstream Basin Characteristics • We need methods to account for the basin characteristics of upstream HUCs. • Types of aggregation: • Sum (drainage area) • Area-weighted average (mean slope) • Maximum (Max elev) • Minimum (Min elev) • Relief (Max – Min elev ) StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003
Basin characteristic layers • These are grids that are used to compute basin characteristics • Continuous-surface • Mean-annual precipitation • Elevation (dem) • Categorical • Forested area • Lake/pond StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

What about adding basin characteristics? • Currently this requires programming in VB and ArcObjects, using the APFramework • Eventually this will be streamlined so that a user can add simple characteristics in XML StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003
Caveats • Make sure your basin characteristics are comparable to those that were used in the regression studies • Be wary of projection changes that may affect directional characteristics • Be wary of resolution changes that may affect basin characteristics StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003
