Loading Data into ArcHydro

Learn to load data in ArcHydro, set up HUC workspaces, and prepare StreamStats data. Generate unique HydroIDs, make generic MXD files, preprocess vectors, adjust flow accumulation, define streams, and delineate catchment grids.

  1. Loading Data into ArcHydro Setting up the HUC workspaces

  2. Directory Structure StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  3. Set up Globally Unique HydroID Generation • This is optional • It may be a good idea if: • You ever might combine ArcHydro datasets • You have multiple people working on pieces of ArcHydro data that may be merged later • I’m currently thinking it is more trouble than it is worth StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  4. Make a Generic MXD File • This is to save time loading data sets into the MXD • Map Properties set to “Store Relative Paths” • Copy this to each HUC directory and rename it e.g. 17060201.mxd StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  5. Vector Preprocessing • In each HUC folder, do the following: • Open the MXD • Zoom to the fdr grid • Catchment Polygon Processing • Drainage Line Processing • Adjoint Catchment Processing • Save and close ArcMap • Compact and Repair Database StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  6. Terrain Preprocessing StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  7. Adjusting Flow Accumulation • Non-headwaters HUCs do not have the full accumulated flow in the fac grid • We need to adjust the flow accumulation to account for the incoming flow from upstream HUCs • Use map algebra to do this adjustment StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  8. Stream Definition StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  9. Stream Segmentation StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  10. Catchment Grid Delineation StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  11. Catchment Polygon Processing StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  12. Drainage Line Processing StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  13. Adjoint Catchment Processing StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  14. Adjoint Catchment 151 StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003

  15. Compact and Repair DataBase StreamStats Data Prep Workshop Oct 21-22, 2003
