New For Extended Mission • Second trip around the Earth – statistics • Different phase of the solar cycle • Different instrument operations • Different orbital configuration • Different constellation of satellite – LWS Great Observatory Which of these are applicable to the science questions we want to answer? • What are the 3-dimensions structures and distributions of VLF and ULF waves within Earth’s inner magnetosphere, and what are the effects those structures on the radiation belt and ring current populations? (dE, dB, k spatial coherence, spatial distributions, ULF wave structures) ?
Science Presentations • MHD modeling of electron drift-resonance observations. • Leave orbits as is. • Statistical analysis of hiss wave spectrum from EMFISIS. • More data = better statistics for model. • MLT separation will allow for evolution of hiss wave spectrum. • Cubesats quantify hiss-driven electron loss. • Hiss origination of chorus. • THEMIS/RBSP conjunctions. Radial alignment is critical (new orbits). • When/where/how often does this mechanism happen? • Magnetosonic rarefaction wave. Coronitti and Kennel. • Use MMS to do detailed wave propagation study. • Use ULF wave modes to determine shock impact orientation. • Azimuthal mode number can be measured • Requires s/c azimuthal separation – modify orbits? Reverse orbits? • High frequency wave activity can drive low frequency activity. • Dayside vsNightside profiles of E-field penetration depth and plasmasphere. • Bounce resonance with magnetosonic waves.
