Goals • Create a center of excellence in diabetes and obesity encompassing state of the art patient care and multidisciplinary research • Encourage research interactions and collaborations including basic, translational and clinical research • Education of physicians and scientists in diabetes and obesity research and clinical care issues • Provide a focus for the recruitment, development and retention of faculty
Clinical Care • Ultimately, a Diabetes and Obesity Clinical care center • For now: • facilitated scheduling with other consultants • Patient education (nutrition, CDE, pharmacist, etc) • Enhanced outreach and consultative activities • Clinical director to be recruited • Monthly clinical conference (2nd Wed, 2-3 pm, MN542)
Education • MDs: endocrinology fellowship for board eligibility • Other healthcare professionals: enhanced focus in diabetes and obesity management (PCPs, NPs, PAs, CDEs) • Scientists: PhD via GCNS or affiliated faculty, options for translational/ clinical research programs • Diabetes & Obesity journal club: 3rd Wed 7:30-8:30 am
Research • Facilitate interactions between diverse faculty scattered across campus and academic appointments • Monthly research conference (4th Wed, 4-5 pm, CTW 411) • Diabetes/ obesity patient registry • NO financial ties (incentive or enhancement funds) or space at this time
