How to use “some” and “any”: Use “some” inpositive sentences: • The children havesome books. • They havesome money.
Use “any” in negative sentences and questions : Negative sentences: • He doesn’t needany stamps. Questions: • Do you haveany friends in Chicago? • Is thereany pollution in your city?
In general we usesomething/anything somebody/anybody somewhere/anywhere In the same way as(some/any): • I can’t see anybody coming. • He lives somewhere near here.
Exception! Use “some” in questions when offering or requesting: • Would you like some bread? • Could I have some water? Use “any” in positive sentences when the real sense is negative: • I refused to give him any money. means ( I didn’t give him any money). (offer) (rquest)
