Support and Information for Parents, Families and Carer’s of a Child with a Disability or Special Need PSN assists families and carer’s in a variety of ways and has been providing support in the east for almost 30 years. PSN aims to provide flexible support based on individual need. PSN is part of a network of regional support workers across Victoria and is closely aligned with the Association for Children with a Disability. PSN receives funding from both the Dept of Health and DEECD. PSN is a not for profit organization administered by a volunteer Committee of Management.
What We Can Offer PSN Website Our website provides a range of information on disability services, as well as information on PSN activities and a forum allowing carer’s to connect with each other. www.psn-emr.com.au Telephone Support Available 5 days a week providing - Assistance and advice on services Assistance with referrals Assistance with advocacy Email Newsletter - Weekly email information updates of what’s happening in the east - A quarterly newsletter with information on PSN Activities.
Support Groups PSN facilitates a number of support groups and provides information about other disability support groups in the east. Parent Support Groups meet once a month in the Cities of Boroondara, Monash, Whitehorse, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges. Support groups are also available for Dad’s of Children with a Disability and Parents of Young Children with High Support Needs An activity is provided each month ranging from craft and movie mornings to educational and self improvement sessions. Groups are a great opportunity for parents to meet other parents, exchange information and ideas and feel less isolated.
Workshops We organize a number of workshops and information sessions in response to parent requests including: Wills and Estate Planning Art Therapy Workshops Self Advocacy Social Activities Throughout the year a number of social and recreational activities are offered that often encourage parents to give themselves time out from their caring role as well as have fun as a family. Some of our more popular events are: Weekends Away Dinners Out Carer’s Week Outings Christmas Family Fun Day
