What is the Innovation Fund? • ULTSEC awards to teams and individuals • Up to £5000 funding for each of 10 projects • Institutional support for learning, teaching and student experience projects • Pump-priming the development of new or innovative approaches
Why might it be good for me? • Innovation Fund emphasises local priorities and how these link with institutional aims • Wouldn’t it be great if... • If I had the resource I’d... • I need time to think • I wonder what they’re doing over there...
Priority themes for 2014 • Strengthening the relationship between research and teaching, for example: • Developing schemes for students to take part in staff-led research projects • Supporting UG students as they undertake their own research • Reviewing and enhancing the teaching of research skills. • Diversifying our portfolio of programmes, for example: • Addressing needs around Continuing Professional Development (CPD) • Converting resources from an existing module to suit distance learning • Scoping interest in and opportunities for future developments to NU’s portfolio of programmes. • Assessment and feedback projects, for example: • marking criteria • fairness of assessment arrangements and marking • timeliness of feedback • usefulness of feedback • clarity of assessment instructions.
Student involvement in projects • Project ideas put forward in partnership with mixed student/staff teams • Projects that engage students in doing the project, not just as recipients or beneficiaries
Who does this benefit? • The staff and students involved in the project • The Academic Units/Services involved in the project • Other Academic Units/Services at NU • Your subject area/discipline • Other subject areas/disciplines • Links with UKPSF, and reward & recognition of teaching at NU
