Who is the target audience & how is the genre shown? • Deadpool is aimed at teenagers and adults, as there are comedic elements for younger teenagers, but also swearing and violence for older audiences. The genre is shown in the opening scene through the zooming out shot of a man with a bullet wound in his head and a grenade by his head, which connotes violence being present in the film and therefore action as that isn’t something that would happen in a film that didn’t involve at least a small aspect of action in it.
Sound, Mise-En-Scene, Editing & Camera Work • There is also a zooming out, mid-shot of a man holding a gun with a bullet that was just fired, which is also a commonly seen prop in action movies. The characters introduced in the opening include Deadpool, a man with a gun, a man with a bullet hole in his forehead and a woman in the car which has shattered glass everywhere. There is non-diegetic sound in the opening in the form of “Angel of the Morning”, which isn’t a song you would expect from such a violent opening, which shows the comedic elements of this action film. Deadpool can be seen wearing a red and black suit, the colours which represent danger and blood, which further highlight the themes of an action film in the opening sequence.
