Card Sort Activity • Each person needs 3 envelopes and 9 cards • On the next page after your Heat Transfer notes, write “Heat Card Sort” at the top of the page along with the date and the page number. • Glue your envelopes to the page • On one envelope, write radiation and its definition. On the other two write conduction, convection, and their definitions. • Each index card will be an example of one of these. Write the example on the card and draw a picture. • 1) The heat you feel when you stand next to but don’t touch a hot oven. • 2) The cold air outside the shower pushes the shower curtain towards you. • 3) A metal knife gets hot sitting on top of the toaster. • 4) Your steak gets grill lines on it from where it touched the grill. • 5) The hot water in a pot rises to the top, gets cold, sinks down, and gets hot again. • 6) The smoke from a fire rises up a chimney. • 7) On a hot, sunny day, the street looks “shimmery” and feels hot when you stand next to it. • 8) Your friend warms up their hands and puts them on top of yours, making your hands feel warm too. • 9) You stand close to a fire in order to get warm. • Sort the cards into the correct envelopes!
