What is Sukkot? The Jewish Harvest festival,Festival of Tabernacles, or Festivals of Booths. -The people build temporary wooden booths big enough to have a table and a family to eat their meals in usually for seven to eight days. Celebrated 15th day of the month of Tishrei. DW DW
Why Is Sukkot Celebrated? The Jewish Festival of Sukkot, also known as the “Festival of Booths”, is celebrated as a reminder of the Israelites’ 40 years spent in booths in the desert YT
When is Sukkot Celebrated? Sukkot is Celebrated on the 15th day of the month of Tishrei -Tishrei varies on the calendar from late September to late October YT
Ceremony of Sukkot -Celebrated over the course of seven days -First Day is the largest celebration --Big meals, Rituals, etc. -Final Day is called Hoshana Rabbahh --Special observances of specific services throughout the day ---Psalm 118:25 read specifically YT
The Booths Originated from the Israelites spending 40 years in the booths. Sukkah- roof made out of S’chach and the inside is made out of extracts of the torah, real or imitation fruit and shiny material. DW
Symbols • Lulav-A green, frond of a date palm tree. • Etrog-A citrus fruit from a Citron Tree. • Hadass-Twigs and leaves from a myrtle tree. • Aravah-Twigs and leaves from a willow tree. DW
