Cultures develop through the relationships between the five elements. With the person sitting next to you: How do the five elements of culture impact one another? Think about an answer and then write it down in your notes.
Bell Ringer: Answer the following in your notes: What are the five elements of culture?
There are four aspects of culture: Literacy Occupations Clothing Property Rights
Literacy The ability to read and write
Occupations The work, job, profession, or activity a person spends time doing
Clothing Things people wear to cover their bodies
Property Rights A legal interest in a piece of property
These aspects develop uniquely from culture to culture based on the five elements of culture. How do the different elements of culture impact the aspects? Can these change with the different generations? Are the aspects in the U.S. going to be similar to or completely different from those in the U.K.? How about in Brazil? South Africa? China? Japan?
How can these different aspects influence one another? How can the elements of culture influence the aspects of culture? How is our culture now different from the American Revolution time period?
With a partner: Identify 3 examples of each element in American culture.
