  4. Title … tells you what the text will be about.

  5. Heading… identifies topics throughout a section of the text.

  6. Subheading… identifies more specific information in the text

  7. Font… highlights key ideas or important words (bold, italics, CoLoR, underlining).

  8. Bullets… emphasize important ideas.

  9. Captions… help you understand a picture or photograph

  10. GRAPHIC FEATURES… help to represent information in a visual way.

  11. Diagrams… give you a more detailed view of information.

  12. Charts… summarize or compare information.

  13. Graphs… show how two or more things are related.

  14. Maps… show you where things are in the world.

  15. Timelines… help you understand the sequence of time.

  16. Illustrations, pictures, & photographs help you see how something looks or might have looked.

  17. TEXT ORGANIZATION The arrangement of what you are reading.
