  2. Direct Objects • Diagram each part of these English sentences: I want that skirt. I bought some shoes. • What is the subject, the verb, the direct object?

  3. Direct Object Pronouns • Direct object pronounstake the place of the direct object in a sentence. For example:

  4. Direct Object Pronouns • Instead of saying, “I want that skirt,” you can say, “I want it” • The word “it” takes the place of the word “skirt.”

  5. Direct Object Pronouns (English) me you him, her, it us them

  6. Direct Object Pronouns (Spanish) me (me) te (you) lo (him or it) la (her or it) nos (us) X los (them, you all) las (them, you all)

  7. Placement of Direct Object Pronouns • Direct Object Pronouns, me, te, lo, la, nos, os, los and las are placed either before a conjugated verb or attached to the end of an infinitive.

  8. Before the Conjugated Verb: • ¿Cuándo compras la pizza? • (¿Cuándo la compras?) • Compro la pizza hoy. • (La compro hoy.)

  9. Before the Conjugated Verb: • ¿Isabel, tienesel equipaje? • (¿Isabel, lotienes?) • No, no tengoel equipaje. • (No, no lo tengo).

  10. Before the conjugated verb or after the infinitive: Before the conjugated verb (1st verb): • ¿Quierescomprarel sombrero? • Sí, loquierocomprar. After the infinitive (2nd verb): • ¿Quierescomprar el sombrero? • Si, quierocomprarlo.

  11. Direct Object Pronouns • When the pronoun replaces both a masculine and a feminine direct object noun, we use los. For example:

  12. Direct Object Pronouns • ¿Cuándo compraste el boleto de ida y vuelta y las maletas? • Los compré el sábado pasado. • When did you buy the roundtrip ticket and the suitcases? • I bought them last Saturday.

  13. Direct Object Pronouns • Julia, ¿meescuchas? (Julia do you hear me) • Sí, yoteescucho. (yes, I hear you) • La Sra. Eichlernosenseñaespañol. DON’T FORGET THAT THE VERB CONJUGATES DEPENDING ON THE SUBJECT NOT THE DOP.
