Introduction: Familiar parable but what does it mean to us today? • Jesus explains this parable. • I believe it is more than just an explanation of why certain soil is unfruitful. • The soil represents each and every person and the condition of their heart. • We may see different types of soil in various facets of our own life. • A farmer knows his soil in each field he has and ploughs, fertilizes and plants the appropriate seed for the soil. • We must be like a farmer and become familiar with the soil in order to prepare the soil to receive the seed.

  9. HOW CAN THE SOIL • BE IMPROVED? • BE PREPARED TO RECEIVE THE SEED?

  10. COMMUNITY OF PRAYER • Allow the Lord to change the soil of your heart • Remove the barriers, blockages & distractions through intercession. • Sow the opposite seed • Book: Rescue the Captors – Russell Stendal • Seek the Lord for the key(s) for that person or people group

  13. LOVING COMMUNITY • Sometimes we have to minister to the natural before the spiritual needs • People need to know that we accept them just the way they are – warts & all • God is a God of multiple chances – He never gives up on us! • Love, acceptance and forgiveness

  14. COMMUNITY OF DISCIPLESHIP • Assist others to grow to maturity in Christ Mt 28:18-20 • Draw alongside those who are struggling Heb 10:24-25 Heb 12:12 Ex 17:12

  15. Summary • How has the Lord challenged you today? • How does the Lord want you to change the soil in your life? • How as a sower can you prepare the soil to receive the Seed of God’s Word?
