  3. How are forests classified? • Evergreen or Deciduous • Coniferous or Broad-leafed • Dry or Wet • Tropical, Temperate or Boreal

  4. What is a forest biome? • Many similar ecosystems throughout the world. • Individual  population  community  Ecosystem  Biome

  6. What is an ecological disturbance? • an event that results in a sustained disruption of an ecosystem's structure and function.

  7. What are examples of disturbances to forest ecosystems? • Logging • Urbanization • Agriculture • Overpopulation of a single species/hunting • i.e. the deer population • Invasive species • Fire • Flood

  8. What is succession? • “more-or-less predictable and orderly changes in the composition or structure of an ecological community.”

  9. What is primary succession? • Succession on an area that has never been occupied by a community.

  10. What is secondary succession? • Succession on an area which had its community removed (by disturbance).
