MUST HAVE SHOULD HAVE COULD HAVE
Module # BNew technology...SO WHAT? presented by : Rodger Jeffery company : Mettler Toledo Inc duration : 30 mins
objectives • Be able to understand the difference and advantages between a “TRADITIONAL, CUSTOMIZED” and a “MODULAR, CONFIGURABLE” design. • Understand the term material feed (transfer) and the six basic stages of a material feed. • Gain a basic overview of what a matroller (material feed measurement and cut-off controller) is, and it importance in a “MODULAR, CONFIGURABLE” design. • Be able to provide answers to questions like “NEW TECHNOLOGY….SO WHAT ?” when asked by colleagues in OPERATIONS, PRODUCTION or ENGINEERING
Traditional Automation Strategies • Traditional automation generally focuses on the differences of a material delivery system and misses the things that are similar. This leads to monolithic automations that are totally self contained and miss the opportunity to take advantages of “best in class” approaches and leads to a lot of creativity that is counter productive. • The results are some parts form a well functioning systems while other parts are less functional, each individual material transfer function is a new custom effort and generally is very different then the previous one. It also leads to a lot maintenance cost and need to replace the automation frequently.
Modular Automation Strategies • Joining the S88 guideline (see www.wbf.com ) for modularity and the Q.i’s best in class functionality the automation is freed to focus on the necessary differences of any given material deliver systems and leaving the overhead of the things that are common to the modular components of the Q.i system with the interaction between components handled by the Q.i with out custom programming. • All of the necessary functions of a material transfer are handled by the pre-engineered and pre-tested components provided by the Q.i system. This leads to a much simpler overall architecture that is less costly to develop and support and will be viable far longer then traditional approaches.
What is Q.i matroller? • Quality Improvements • Quantity Increases • Quantifiable Improvement QUANTUM IMPACT
What ? What is Q.i matroller? • is a professional grade, Material Feed Management tool • dedicated to optimizing Material Feed functionality… • Measurement • Cut-Off Control • Reporting & Analysis

SO WHAT…Why would I use Q.i? PRODUCTION We need to increase production capacity. We are having a problem producing consistent batches or fills. We need to reduce our capital spend on our batch & filling systems. ENGINEERING & QUALITY CORPORATE, OEM’S, SYSTEMS INTEGRATORS

Modular Automation Strategies • Physically the process and the control components are identical with the minimum required processing functionality supplied in the custom chaos approach. • Functions shift location, many from custom costly environments to a form that is provided as an industrially hardened and supported component in the Q.i matroller. • In the Q.i system you receive much more then the minimum, actual you receive the maximum possible in functionality, without costly with significantly less effort on the part of the end user with success almost always a certainty.
