  1. Objective 3.03 Explain the universal systems model

  2. Universal Systems Model is an attempt to graphical depict processes of all sorts. Viewing something through the scheme of the universal systems model is an attempt to simplify something that is relatively complex.

  3. Input Process Output Feedback Universal Systems Model is an attempt to graphical depict processes of all sorts.

  4. Open – Loop System Diagram Output Process Input

  5. Closed – Loop Systems Diagram Output Process Input Feedback

  6. The ideas and activities that helps us determine what we want to accomplish. Input Tools and Machines People Time Capital Information Finances Energy Materials

  7. Process The conversion of your ideas through the use of the 9 resources into useful products.

  8. Output The result of the system. • Desired: goods • Undesired: pollution • Expected • Unexperted

  9. Feedback- • Provides information about the quality of what is being produced • Monitoring the system using gauges, displays, and sensors to do. Monitoring the systems making changes as needed.

  10. Resources of Technology • Tools • Materials • Processes • Energy • Information • Humans

  11. Communication Systems – Systems that change information into messages that can be transmitted. These systems include a sender, message, receiver, and feedback.

  12. Structural Systems - Systems that use goods and materials to build structures that will resist external force, support a load, and hold each structural element in a relative position to other parts.

  13. Manufacturing Systems – Systems using materials and processes to produce usable products.

  14. Energy, Power and Transportation Systems – Systems that convert energy into mechanical, fluid, electrical, radiant, chemical, and thermal energy.

  15. Describing Resources • People- People are the creators of technology and use the other resources that have been around billions of years, to create technology. • Information- Technology requires information. It is use of that information that helps us to meet our needs and wants. • Capital- Any form of wealth is capital. Capital is barter, money, credit, or property.

  16. Resources Cont. • Materials- Materials are the goods that we develop into products. • Tools and Machines- Tools include hand tools and machines. • Energy- Energy is the source of power for all of our technology systems. • Time- Since the industrial era, time has been measured in hours, minutes and seconds. Our forefathers measured time the setting and rising of the sun. We now measure time in nanoseconds (billionths of a second).
