Dental Radiology • Why is it evolving? • How does it differ from normal radiology? • What techniques can we use to take dental radiographs?
Machines and Techniques • What are the differences between the dental machine and the traditional radiographic machine? • When do we take dental films? • What techniques are used for dental radiology?
1. Discolored Teeth • 2. Fractured Teeth • 3. Resorptive Lesions • 4. Loose Teeth • 5. Teeth with Periodontal Pockets • 6. Teeth w/Gum Loss • 7. Missing teeth • 8. Before, during and after a root canal • 9. Mal-aligned teeth • 10. Facial abscesses • 11. Before and after extraction.
Parallel Technique • The film is placed in the mouth, behind the tooth or teeth in question. Parallel to the tooth or teeth. • The cone of the machine is placed perpendicular to the tooth and film.
Bisecting Angle Technique • The animal must be positioned with the area of interest up. • Place the film under the tooth or teeth in question. • Place a wooden dowel parallel to the film.
Place a wooden dowel parallel to the angle of the tooth root. • Place a 3rd dowel in such a way that it splits the angle of the 1st 2 dowels. That is, it bisects the angle made by the film and the tooth root.
Place the tube head (cone) perpendicular to the angle of the 3rd dowel. • Removal all dowels and take your exposure.
