SOIS Report to CESG/CMC 9 October 2007 Patrick Plancke, C. Taylor
SOIS AREA REPORT CONTENTS • CURRENTLY ACTIVE WGs AND BOFs WITHIN AREA • SUMMARY DOCUMENT STATUS • SUMMARY TECHNICAL STATUS OF EACH WG & BOF • INTRA & CROSS-AREA TECHNICAL ISSUES • OTHER ISSUE AND CONCERNS • RESOLUTIONS FROM THIS MEETING
SOIS AREA REPORT • LIST OF CURRENT WGs AND BOFs WITHIN AREA • Application Support Services WG • Subnetwork Services WG • Plug and Play BOF • Wireless BOF • Transducer BOF – Work terminated (absorbed)
SOIS AREA REPORT • Application Services Working Group • Goal: Develop SOIS Application support layer services and associated protocols if required • Working Group Summary progress: • Rid review completed, Red book update underway • Agreement reached on use of AMS • Plug and play approach agreed with P&P BOF • Problems and Issues: • Prototyping delay • Working Group Summary Situation:
SOIS AREA REPORT • Subnetwork services • Goal: Develop SOIS Subnetwork Services and associated protocols if required • Working Group Summary progress: • Rid review completed, Green book updated, Red book update underway • Previous meeting with SpaceWire WG very positive, SOIS compliant protocols under preparation by SpaceWire WG • Interaction with ECSS Milbus group underway • CAN Bus planned for 2008 • Problems and Issues • Introduction of new signalling service requires name change of Time distribution Red Book – to Synchronisation service • Prototyping delay • Working Group Summary Situation:
SOIS AREA REPORT • Plug and Play BOF • Goal: Develop SOIS plug and Play capability • Working Group Summary progress: • Definition of “SOIS Device Plug-and-Play” agreed: “SOIS Device Plug-and-Play is the set of automated mechanisms used to discover, learn the capabilities of, and provide access to a device in a spacecraft’s onboard (sub-)network.” • Use cases developed (FDIR, rapid spacecraft assembly, integration and test, BioNet)and tested against straw man architecture • Plan of work established for remaining SOIS Red books • Problems and Issues • BOF Now has clear plan of work, do we create ‘high profile’ working group or absorb work into existing working groups? • Working Group Summary Situation:
SOIS AREA REPORT • Wireless BOF • Goal: CCSDS focus group for wireless technologies. Make recommendations pursuant to standardization of applicable wireless network protocols • Working Group Summary progress: • Consensus gained in 3 areas of work: • Inventory control • Intra-vehicle • Assembly, Integration, and Test • Draft charter prepared for working group • Problems and Issues • (Heads up) Wireless for Planetary surface currently not covered • Working Group Summary Situation:
SOIS requires a calibration service to support access to sensors. This was previous highlighted and an understanding reached that MOIMS would cover the topic. It is understood that MOIMS have not yet started the work so the agreement needs to be reviewed in terms of schedule and who does what – action assigned • SOIS AREA REPORT D. Cross Area Issues
None • SOIS AREA REPORT E. OTHER ISSUES AND CONCERNS
Propose SOIS Plug and Play BOF to become either a stand alone WG or for the work to be incorporated into SOIS Application services WG Propose Wireless BOF to become WG Propose Max Ciccone as Application service Deputy WG chair • SOIS AREA REPORT F. RESOLUTIONS FROM THIS MEETING
Wireless categories: Intra-vehicle: Internal vehicle (or habitat) extremely short-range wireless links and networking (up to 10 m range) Inter-vehicle: Vehicle-to-vehicle short-range and medium range (up to 20 km) Planetary surface-to-surface wireless links and networking (up to several kilometers). EVA (Extra-Vehicular Activity) local links with planetary rover vehicles (RV) and/or habitats; RV-habitat links when RV is close to habitat; Links between independent local systems (e.g., habitats, robots, external assets) Orbiter relay-to-planetary surface links and networking • SOIS AREA REPORT Back-up slide – Wireless WG
Overview of current deliverables Draft Green Book containing rational, design-drivers, Wireless categories, approach etc Intra-vehicle: Summarize scenarios, requirements, and suggested wireless protocols requirements for asset/inventory tracking and control via wireless communications in a Magenta Book; Intra-vehicle: Summarize scenarios, requirements, and suggested wireless protocols requirements for intra-vehicle communications (e.g., a spacecraft or habitat), other than inventory management, in a Magenta Book; Assembly-Integration-Test: Summarize scenarios, requirements, and suggested wireless protocols requirements for terrestrial assembly-integration-test (AIT) activities in a Magenta Book; • SOIS AREA REPORT Back-up slide – Wireless WG
