Background Information • The article- Endemic Iron Deficiency Associated With Helicobacter pylori Infection Among School-Aged Children in Alaska • The problem- Alaskan children suffering iron deficiency, leads to further problems • The children that are most affected are found in the rural areas of Alaska • Age group that is most affected is 7 years to 11 years • Iron deficiency leads to further problems such as infection contracted from Helicobacter pylori which has been seen to lead to stomach ulcers

  3. Audience • Target audience- The children are the ones being affected but the parents are the ones who need to make sure they are feed the right things • Secondary audience- The children • Tertiary audience- Friends, relatives, and the community especially those affiliated with the school

Audience Assessment • Population of rural areas- 223,622 • Per-capita income-$36,667 • Reading level- students: grade 1-5; parents/ community: grade level 6 • Education of parents/community- 15.2% did not finish, 32.1% completed high school, 32.1% completed some college, 20.7% completed college

  5. Letter to Parents • Includes • An assessment problem: noticeable increase in iron deficiency among school aged children • Tests: states that tests were conducted • Problems from this: infection of H.pylori, stomach ulcers • Preventive measures: foods high in iron

  10. Public Service Announcement • What- Radio message • When- Between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. • Why- Most parents are the ones who will listen to the radio the most during this time. Not everyone in this area would have a television so radio is a better choice.
