  3. Putting the “E” into Learning • Aims: • To set the scene for the seminar • To promote: • an awareness of learning agendas • The role of ICT in supporting learning • To support heads in their leadership role • To identify NE as a centre of excellence

  4. Focus on Learning • National agenda of school improvement and raising standards • Much focus has been on teaching • Growing realisation of renaissance of learning • Flexible learning styles and opportunities

  5. Why “E” Learning? • Flexible to meet ranges of learning styles • Promotes and enlivens anytime anywhere learning • Generic and subject specific • Communication and collaboration • Transfer of data for management planning

  6. Did you know? • Over 90% of jobs use ICT • ICT and broadband are essential to economic growth • Most NE schools will have broadband by 2004 • Most NE schools will have access to broadband content by 2004

  7. Did you know? • All teachers in NE have a personal portal • All pupils in NE can access a personal portal • Schools can collaborate and communicate safely across the Northern Grid network

  8. Did you know? • Broadband is always on • Broadband provides multi-user access to multi-media content • Broadband enables fast internet access • Most LEAs in NE are connected to the National Educational Network

  9. So What?? • What will be the difference? • Existing practice will produce existing outcomes • New approaches to T & L through ICT • Greater autonomy for learners • Creative and innovative teaching
