Men of Whom the World was not Worthy Hebrews 11:38 Rahab
Rahab was a Marked woman Joshua 1:3-6 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given to you, just as I promised to Moses. 4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your territory. 5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. Just as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you or forsake you. 6 Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.
Rahab was a Marked woman Q: Why would Joshua risk the lives of two men if he knew that the land was already given to him? A: Perhaps because there was one woman who needed rescued.
Rahab was a Marked woman Joshua 2; 6:17 And the city and all that is within it shall be devoted to the LORD for destruction. Only Rahab the prostitute and all who are with her in her house shall live… Hebrews 11:31 By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies. James 2:25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? Sin sticks!
The fact of her salvation does not imply God’s approval But reputation, credibility, and trust are not easy to save once they are lost.
A reputation is worth keeping Acts 9:26 And when he (Paul, sic) had come to Jerusalem, he attempted to join the disciples. And they were all afraid of him, for they did not believe that he was a disciple. Proverbs 22:1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold. Ecclesiastes 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment…
The fact of her salvation does not imply God’s approval But reputation, credibility, and trust are not easy to save once they are lost. How would YOU like to be remembered? It’s YOUR choice.
Rahab Seized the Moment She was a true believer Joshua 2:9-11 “I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you. 10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you devoted to destruction. 11 And as soon as we heard it, our hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you, for theLORD your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath.
Rahab Seized the Moment She “ACTED” on her faith James 2:24-25 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. 25 And in the same way was not also Rahab the prostitute justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out by another way? .
Another Day of Destruction Coming 2 Thessalonians 1:6-9 …since indeed God considers it just to repay with affliction those who afflict you, 7 and to grant relief to you who are afflicted as well as to us, when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with his mighty angels 8 in flaming fire, inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. 9 They will suffer the punishment of eternal destruction, Not “doing” is just as bad as not “knowing”… Seize the moment !!
Rahab would not be held back It’s not as important how you start as how you finish Joshua 6:24-25 And they burned the city with fire, and everything in it. Only the silver and gold, and the vessels of bronze and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord. 25 But Rahab the prostitute and her father's household and all who belonged to her, Joshua saved alive. And she has lived in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.
Rahab lived while her city burned • She married Salmon & had a son, Boaz • Boaz married Ruth & had a son, Obed • Obed had a son, Jesse • Jesse had 8 sons, the youngest being David Rahab was the great, great, grandmother of the greatest warrior king of Israel A bad start doesn’t mean you can’t finish well
Matthew 21:28-31 “What do you think? A man had two sons. And he went to the first and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’ 29 And he answered, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he changed his mind and went. 30 And he went to the other son and said the same. And he answered, ‘I go, sir,’ but did not go.31 Which of the two did the will of his father?” They said, “The first.” Jesus said to them, “Truly, I say to you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes go into the kingdom of God before you. The penitent one served his father
What do we learn from rahab • You can be “marked” for good or for evil • And the marks of sin stick • Seize the moment • Because faith without works won’t work • Do not be held back by anything • It is not as important how you start as how you finish
