The School Prom Can we make it work?
Student survey - Price • From the survey I carried out I found out that the best price to charge was £15. The price is the most important factor to people (69%) so it must be set correctly.
Student survey - venue • Most people (45%) favoured a marquee and although fewest people wanted the Prom at school (21%) it would make sense to have the marquee at school as there is no cost for using the field. The only way we could have it in a hotel is if we charge £25 and only 16 people were happy to pay this much.
Most people were in favour of hot food and we could provide this by using the school’s kitchens. Student survey - food
Food costs • By catering ourselves (actually, mums, dads & teachers that volunteer for free!) we will be able to cater for the whole event for under £326. This includes plates and cutlery.
Entertainment • Most people wanted a DJ rather than a live band (66%). We would need to add a dance floor to the marquee but we could make this smaller or larger depending on the number of tickets sold.
Final costs • 107 people of the year said they would come. We could break even with a marquee, a disco, and self-catered hot food for a ticket price of just £13. • I would suggest charging £15 as this is what most (75%) said they would pay. This would give us some in hand if costs go up or if less than 107 come.
