Operational Summary • No missile attack into Kuwait yesterday • Coalition forces continue attack • Forces operating in the vicinity of Baghdad • Iraqi forces fail in attempt to retake Euphrates bridge • Operations within southern cities continue
Security Situation Update • Rear Area Threat: • Iraqi surface to surface missile attacks still possible, though short-range threat diminished • Iraqi paramilitary activities north of Kuwaiti border • NO GO Areas: Most of northern Kuwaiti border into Iraq
Security Situation Update • KU and US military state traveling to Iraq entails risk • Close interaction with HOC prior to departure is highly recommended to ensure receipt of the most recent security updates • Vehicle travelers should take security precautions • Stay on prepared roads
Significant CMO/Civil Developments • US government announces additional contributions to support aid in Iraq • $200M for 340,000 pounds of food • $20M for other NGO operations supporting Iraqi relief
Southern Highlights • Umm Qasr • Electricity fully restored • Water restored • All berths in the old and new ports are repaired • Lack of dredging has and will make operations problematic • Local rail line is undamaged • Umm Khayal • Water deliveries by tanker trucks Thursday
