Presentation The Project The Consequences The Approaches The Results
The Project The elimination and awareness of a paper dependency through the use of simplistic methods that take advantage of available technology.
The Background The original project was to get the default margins changed from 1.25” left/right to a narrower margin of .75” all around. This lead to the English department (which was really the only department that would cooperate with us). The English department is strict about its use of the MLA format…a change was need in the project.
The Background There was mention of how the English department is taking steps towards a paperless department. Also mention the “Best Practices” round-table meeting in which only 12 professors attended.
The Approaches Dr. Gerik’s 100% paperless appoach:via e-mail Prof. Lerberg, Prof. Clough, & Prof. Lerberg:via wordpress.com….
The Approaches To address the selected departments: The English Department: Dr. Wendy Faris, Department Chair Dr. Faris’ concerns were that the narrower margins would … The Engineering Department: Dr. J Carter Tiernan, Asst. Dean for Student Affairs Dr. Tiernan didn’t give a shit and said she couldn’t be bothered by a bunch of ignorant architectural student…then spit in our general direction. The Other Department: Dr. What’s-his-name, Department Chair Dr. didn’t have any concerns. He enacted the change while we sat there…then served us tea and cake…it was awesome.
The Approaches To address the individual: The poster has been posted in the following computer labs: • Computer Lab 1 • Computer Lab 2 • Computer Lab 3
The Results By setting the margins to ¾” the printable area goes from 54.0 in2 to 66.5 in2, an increase of 18.80%. This means that you save 1 page for every 7.5 pages. So, to assume that a ¼ of the total paper used by the University will be affected by the margin change. There would be a 4.75% saving in paper. So the 370 tons of paper would be reduced to 352 tons.
The Results Which means:
