RESEARCH IN ROME AND POMPEII • Work closely with a faculty member in Classical Studies on a research project at William and Mary • Take a three-week tour of Rome and the area of the Bay of Naples, including Pompeii, to investigate and report on your project on site • Participate in a student research symposium back at William and Mary • Earn up to nine credits • Estimated cost of program: $5000 • (excluding airfare and some meals) • For more information, please contact • Prof. Spaeth (bsspae@wm.edu)

RESEARCH IN ROME AND POMPEII • Fall 2009 OR Spring 2010 • Enroll for Independent Study credit • (CLCV 491, GREK 491 or LATN 491; 1-3 credits) • Work on a research project with a professor • Can attach independent study component • to an existing course or do a separate project • Early Spring 2010 • Feb. 1: Application for study abroad due to Reves Center ($75 fee) • Mar. 1: Deposit for program due to Reves Center ($500) • Apr. 1: Balance of program costs due to Reves Center by Apr. 1 • Summer 2010 (May 27-June 16 : tentative) • Study tour to Rome and the Bay of Naples (including Pompeii) (5 credits) • Study your project on site and deliver a presentation on it to the group. • Fall 2010 • Optional research symposium (1 credit) • Develop a professional-quality paper from your project • Present your paper at symposium • Work toward submitting your paper to a national professional conference
