Options after Year 12 • What if my ATAR isn’t what I expected? • Swinburne offers a number of pathway opportunities that allow students to progress to a university degree. • At Swinburne students can choose to undertake a certificate, diploma, advanced diploma or UniLink diploma. • We have options for any ATAR… but what is best for your student will vary depending on their goals.

Vocational Education Programs • Certificates and diplomas which have a job-outcome focus • Skills-based education to ensure graduates are work-ready and are qualified for entry level jobs as all programs have work-based elements. • Swinburne students get good jobs as their qualification is well recognised by employers. • Teachers are working or have worked in industry. • Students use technology, tools and equipment consistent with their future workplace. • VET Fee-HELP available to eligible students. • Opportunities to pathway to university if a student decides to continue study rather than get a job.

Pathways • Swinburne’s diploma and advanced diploma graduates can gain entry into a bachelor degree • Credit received, fast-tracking students into later stages of a degree • Can obtain multiple qualifications including a degree • Swinburne Embedded Degree • Three year degree • Year 1 and 2 more study time, support, job-ready skills • Year 3 complete subjects in self directed learning style • Option to exit with Associate Degree after Year 2
Pathways • UniLink Diplomas • Higher education diploma equivalent to first year of a bachelor degree. • Not intended as training for a job outcome. • Students progress into second-year of a Swinburne bachelor degree. • Three intakes each year: February, June, October • Commonwealth supported places ie same fees as HECS.
Pathways • Programs available • Diploma of Business (UniLink) • Diploma of Design (UniLink) • Diploma of Engineering (UniLink) • Diploma of Information Technology (UniLink)
Pathways • UniLink Diploma: entry requirements • Students need an ATAR of 50 and above (plus middle band consideration) • Score of at least 20 in English (30 in ESL English). • For Engineering, an advanced mathematics subject is required. • For Design, an art, design or media subject is required.
Pathways • Example Bachelor of Design (Communication Design) What if I want to change to a degree in a different discipline eg science? Successful completion of the UniLink diploma is recognised for entry to a degree. Where a student changes discipline they are unlikely to get additional credit in the degree program.
