Guest Speaker Wes Friesen Jesus: The Ultimate BFF! (Best Friend Forever)
Principle # 1: We all need FRIENDS!
Principle #2: Some best friends have DIFFERENT backgrounds.
Jesus = Supreme in all the Universe (Holy, sinless and always good) Me (and You) = Sinners (not Holy, sinless and always good) YET Jesus gladly wore the label “Friend of Sinners”
Jesus is the loving, caring, compassionate and understanding “Son of Man” AND Jesus is also the all-knowing, always present and all-powerful “Son of God”
Case Study: Lazarus John 11:17-44 We see Jesus the “Son of Man” and Jesus the “Son of God” in action.
Principle # 4: How do we start a PERSONAL friendship relationship with Jesus? By believing and receiving His offer of relationship!
Romans 3:23 - For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, BUT the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. II Corinthians 5:21 - God made Him (Jesus) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God. John 1:12 - ...to all who received Him, to those that believe in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.
Principle # 5: How do we GROW in our relationship with Jesus? We develop our relationship with Jesus by love, faith and obedience.
...was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the alter?...Abraham believed God...and he was called God’s friend. • James 2:20-23
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in His love. I have told you this so that my joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. • John 15:9-15
You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his masters business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I have learned from my Father I have made known to you. • John 15:9-15
Take It Away... Jesus wants to be our #1 BFF – and is the very best friend we can ever dream of. It’s up to us to accept His offer of a personal friendship with the living God man – a friendship that starts now and lasts for all of eternity!
