The Outsiders By S. E. Hinton
Discussion Do you agree or disagree with each statement: • Other people define you by the people you hang out with. • Physical appearance doesn’t matter among friends. • I have many friends who are nothing like me. • Kids who act “weird” deserve the treatment they get from their peers. • A person’s parents are his/her best friends. • It’s better to have a large group of friends than just one or two. • Your status in your peer group affects how you feel about yourself. • It’s okay to change how you act in front of different groups of peers. • There are people in y close peer group whom I do not like. • The people that you’ll be friends with in the future will probably be similar to the people you’re friends with now. Now ask yourself: Did I lie about any of these answers?

What do you think is the meaning of the poem? Nothing Gold Can Stay Nature's first green is gold,Her hardest hue to hold. Her early leaf's a flower; But only so an hour. Then leaf subsides to leaf,So Eden sank to grief,So dawn goes down to dayNothing gold can stay. Robert Frost
Do you agree? it means that when all things start out as gold since it is natures first hue for example a child, everyone is a child at some point and that “nothing gold can stay” is saying that no one is a child forever and that you should cherish your childhood fully and make the most out of it. As the poem mentions “dawn goes down to day meaning” that nothing is eternal. Also the part “her early leafs a flower but only so and hour then leaf subsides to leaf so Eden sank to grief”. This means that flowers only bloom their fullest for only a short while then its bloom slowly starts to subside to nothing. Meaning that all things wonderful can’t stay Which is why Eden is sad. The part “Nature's first green is gold,Her hardest hue to hold” means that the best thing in life represented by gold can’t last forever represented by the second line.
