  4. OBJECTIVES • Meet ROTC/Reserve Component requirements • “Military Language Flagship” regional hub • Core Languages • East Asia • Mandarin • Korean • Southwest Asia • Farsi • Arabic • Europe • Russian • Summer special programs as required • Linked study abroad and internship opportunities

KEY TASKS • Obtain startup funding • Establish instructional teams • Develop curriculum and supporting programs • Recruit to fill student cohorts • Establish K-12 pipelines • Integrate with Guard Language Center of Excellence-East • Create sustainable demand and expand capability • Transition to institutional funding

STRATEGIC LANGUAGE INTENSIVE PROGRAM (SLIP) • Cohort Based; 10-18 students • Instructional Team • Two professors, two assistants, two tutors • Instructor ratio with tutors 1:3 • Semester Intensive • 15 weeks of immersion; 25 hours/week • 3 credit hour blocks; 12 per semester • Curriculum Inversion; language first • Academic major or minor • Baccalaureate 2+2 for DLI graduates • Potential for advanced degrees

SUMMER LANGUAGE INSTITUTES • Initial training for ROTC transient Cadets • Third semester for core languages • Same cohort structure as academic year • Twelve weeks of instruction • 30 hours of in-class instruction per week • Low density “special needs” languages • Swahili • Georgian • Proficiency goals • ILR 0+/1 for Cat IV • ILR 1/1++ for Cat I

  11. INSTRUCTOR FUNDING MODEL(18 CREDIT HOUR PER SEMESTER MODEL) * Based upon tuition rate of $160 per credit hour ** State appropriations formula; funding lag of two to three years ***Includes fringe benefits @ 30% of base salary for academic year

  13. COST PER STUDENT NOTES: *Based on five months of base pay or ROTC stipend for a semester. **Assumes DLIFLC zip code. North Georgia BAH ~ 40% less than Monterey. ***Cadet Language Incentive Pay (CLIP) is $250 per credit hour Does not include cost to government for DLIFLC or PLTCE language faculty, travel or temporary duty.

  14. FUNDING TRANSITION NOTES: FY 2012 new 10 Gigabit fiber loop in place. University is primary data center. FY 2013 Guard requirements shift to Dari and Pashtu. FY 2014 final year of DOD funding. FY 2015 FYDP scheduled completion of Reserve Component Regional Training Facility; all languages shifted to university based funding.

NATIONAL GUARD AND RESERVE PROGRAM • Army Reserve Soldiers in the Corps: • 80 in the Georgia Mountain Detachment • 15 training with other units • 95 total • 6 DLIFLC language program • Georgia Army National Guard: • 181 present • 108 on GMS • 60 in the Guard Detachment on campus • 15 DLIFLC language program • Total Present: 276 = 40% of the Corps of Cadets 19
