  4. Colonists protested the British tax on tea with the Boston Tea Party. Let’s Define the following terms: Our Language Objectives for today Tea Act Quartering Act Intolerable Acts

  5. Turn and Talk at your table: What is “Absolute Power” do we have a name for it?

  6. British were furious • 2 goals: (1) punish colonists, (2) restore British power in colonies • 1774: British Parliament passed Intolerable Acts (“unacceptable” laws)

  8. What was the purpose of the Tea Act? • Why were some of the colonists opposed to the Tea Act? How did they protest the Tea Act? • What was the purpose of the Intolerable Acts? • Name two effects of the Intolerable Acts. • Why was the Boston Tea Party an important event?   9. #1: Closed Boston Harbor until dumped tea was paid for • #2: Banned town meetings not approved by governor (no more self-gov) • #3: Trials of British soldiers moved to England if governor believed a fair trial was impossible (“Murder Act”) • #4: More troops sent to Boston

  10. OUTRAGE: Boston Patriots refused to pay • Merchants elsewhere closed their shops • Colonies sent food and $ to Boston • Saw attack on 1 colony = attack on all • Virginia called for congress (meeting) of delegates  peaceful solution to fight w/GB
