1. Preparation for the inventory update. • Review the latest NIP and secure finances • Identify those areas where the earlier inventory data has changed • Establish task teams for updating the inventories • Provide training for the inventory exercise, • Develop detailed workplan, contracts and/or ToRs.

What to consider before starting? • People with the right expertise are selected. • Include experts from the stakeholders like electrical utilities and NGOs. • ToRs shall include detailed information on the tasks, the format and content requirements for the reports. • Task team leaders/assistants are recruited • Appropriate time for the data collection (weather, vacation, etc).

What to consider during the exercise? • Regular meetings should be organized for the task teams to share data, information and experiences. • Support field visits of the task teams (official request or notification letters, contact details from the previous inventory exercise, etc). • The PCU should be the hub for information sharing.

Lessons learned from earlier inventories. • Use analytical methods for PCB detection (Dexsil L2000DX, GC). • Use the Dioxin toolkit appropriately • Avoid repetitions of legal measures and their evaluations. • Balance the length of the inventories to the importance of the topic. • Provide brief assessment on the inventory findings. These assessments can and should turn into objectives and actions. • Concentrate on POPs, avoid discussing irrelevant information.

Inventory validation. • The draft inventory reports shall be discussed and approved by the steering committee (pre-validation). • All comments/queries should be answered/resolved by the task teams before the reports are finalized. • The project coordination unit shall officially send the final inventory reports to the stakeholders (validation). • Based on the stakeholders' comments the inventories shall be finalized.
6. Inventory validation. • Inventory data on POPs are representative. • Conclusions are appropriate. • The identified barriers and needs are valid. • The inventory provides true picture with regards to POPs in the country. • The inventory is endorsed.
