To impart interest or zest to; enliven. To fill with spirit, courage or resolution; encourage To inspire to action; prompt To impart motion or activity to To make, design or produce (a cartoon, for example) so as to create the illusion of motion.

  4. FIVE COMMUNITIES SELECTED FOR PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN 2013

  5. The Vision: Each community delivers three arts projects where art “animates” or brings new spaces and places to life, culminating in a weekend of arts activity in 2013.

  10. CHARTERS TOWERS Project 1: A Walk Through Letters - The World Projected (Digital Projected Art) Charters Towers CBD.

  11. Project 1: Charters Towers A Walk Through Letters: The World Projected (Digital Projected Art) Charters Towers CBD. This project will take views on a walk up the main street of Charters Towers after dark, exploring the concept of “letters” through digital projections onto significant buildings. Projections will incorporate image and textrelating to specific historical and contemporary interpretations relevant to each building, drawing on actual letters, poetry by local residents and stories from the community. The walk will end at the Stock Exchange, where the Towers Players will stage a performance based on “letters”, with dinner to follow.   13. Project 2: Charters Towers Re-texted: Sculptures in the World. (Sculpture/Public Art) Main Street CT • Working in predominantly vintage, found metal and using steel objects which reflect the make up of Charters Towers and its surrounds to create sculptures which incorporate many examples (historic and modern) of text in its many forms (eg number plates, serial numbers, cattle brands) to create large sculptures representative of the Charters Towers area. Participants will learn the skills necessary to create their own sculptures in the future.   14. CHARTERS TOWERS Project 3: The Exchange Letters in Performance (Theatre) Stock Exchange Arcade

  15. Project 3: Charters Towers The Exchange Letters in Performance (Theatre) Stock Exchange Arcade. Audience members will finish their ‘Walk Through Letters’ at the Stock Exchange where a series of small skits and other performance pieces written by local authors will be performed.  The writing will take place under the guidance of an author / playwright with experience in bringing history to life.  The performances will be staged by the local amateur theatre group, Towers Players Inc.  Dinner will then be served in the Stock Exchange.   16. EUDLO ARIA: Regional 85 km from Brisbane, inland from the Sunshine Coast, population 1,128. Historically a forestry and timber-milling town, now surrounds a National Park with a focus on organic food industry and the Chenrezig Buddhist Retreat.   18. Project 1: Eudlo The Cultural Seeding (music and dance) Eudlo Hall/Central Tree. A performing arts event consisting of separate community performances exploring Indigenous culture, community identity, cultural heritage, natural and man-made spaces in Eudlo village.   20. Project 2: Eudlo Timeline Wall (sculpture-public art) Olsen’s Mill Park To build a wall onto which community art works (ceramic tiles, decals and small sculptural work) will be placed. SuncoastClay Workers will conduct several street workshops which will allow Eudlo residents to decorate tiles. Members of the GubbiGubbi community will be invited to decorate a number of tiles which will depict their story of Eudlo. Workshops will be conducted for children , so that they can produce some small 3D object to be applied to the Wall.Suncoast Clay Workers will produce a series of tiles with decal photos depicting some of Eudlo's history and local places of interest.   22. Project 3: Eudlo Emerging Youth (street art mural) Eudlo Skate park Amural painted directly onto the skate park by two professional mural/spray paint artists from the Nowhere Art Group. The installation to include three panels painted by local young people and professional artists in a series of workshops delivered by the Nowhere Art Group artists which will be placed around the skate park in consultation with the community and council. Located in the centre of town, the mural will be designed to give Eudlo a contemporary arts theme that engages and inspires and uplifts. There will also be an Indigenous Hip Hop group performance at Eudlo skate park - choreographed and directed by De Greer-Yindmincarlie. Whalesong Conceptual will consist of two weekend workshops with children (up to 13 years) that will explore ways of communicating with whales and other sea creatures through sound. The workshops aim to collaboratively develop concepts to inform the design and construction of public instruments that make use of recycled materials (Whalesong - Instrumental) to be utilised for performances (Whalesong - Orchestral).   27. Project 2: Hervey Bay Whalesong Instrumental (whale communication trail) Discovery Centre, Flexispace, Point Vernon, Scarness Park, Urangan Pier, Quota Park. Whalesong - Instrumental will draw and build on the children's ideas from Whalesong - Conceptual to inform the design and construction of public sculptural instruments from a variety of locally sourced recycled materials, such as large industrial machinery. Artists will collaboratively explore ways of making sounds and reproducing them on a larger scale, methods of interaction with public art/spaces as well as design and safety considerations. Project 3: Hervey Bay Whalesong Orchestra (performance) Quota Park To create song and music to link concepts and installations of whales and creatures of the sea presented in Project 1, interpreting the question from Project 1 - How can we ensure everyone could share a message, song or story? It is envisioned this will be done via song writing workshops, musical workshops and possibly complementary choreography culminating in performances. Project 2: Redlands Redlands Ignite (arts workshops, market + community art installations) Raby Bay Foreshore The ideas behind the workshops are connected directly to the idea of light; Its effects through transparent surfaces, the shadows cast by objects inhibiting light, uses of light reflecting and enhancing materials and surfaces. The workshops also aim to promote art methods that leave minimal footprint. By using recycled and repurposed materials and by striving to abolish waste and damage that could be left after the workshops have ended. The diversity in projects will ensure a broad range of participants. Entertainment will cater for all ages and be conducted in day time and night time around Cleveland which is the end of the train line and gateway to Moreton Bay. Project 1: Toowoomba Real Time Your Time (interactive video installation) CBD Buildings a public, interactive video installation which investigates the shifting realities of space, redefining what ‘space’ is in relation to painting. Areal time recording of the public will be discreetly installed within a public space in Toowoomba’s CBD over the course of the weekend.   41. Project 2: Toowoomba Story Telling Wall (Urban Art with young people) SerlsLaneway, Chandler Laneway. Workshops for local children with author and teacher Emma McTaggart. The stories will be collated and drawn up into one big long-running comic book-like artwork. This artwork will collectively tell the stories of the new generation and what they think it means to live here in Toowoomba. The professional artists will take these stories and draw them up into long images to be put up onto the walls by experienced graffiti artists. Project 3: Toowoomba Up The Creek (site specific ephemeral sculpture) Gowrie Creek This proposal is to clear a section of a creek bank (with infestations of introduced flora) as part of a regeneration program, then use the felled trees and/or branches in ephemeral artworks. These works could stay as markers to the actual site, or be redeployed elsewhere along the creek.
