Basic Skills Goals Organizational & Administrative Practices: Coordinated program reflected in College’s organizational structure and aimed at student success Program Components: Systematize assessment, orientation, counseling, and financial aid to address needs of basic skills students Faculty & Staff Development: Establish and fund a Teaching and Learning Center Instructional Practices: Focus curriculum on learner-centered instruction and student success GOALS & OBJECTIVES FOR BASIC SKILLS

QUESTION 4: NEW GOALS & OBJECTIVES FOR STUDENT SUCCESS IN RESPONSE TO DISTRICT STRATEGIC PLAN, ARCC/AB 1417 MEASURES, TECHNOLOGY STRATEGIC ASSESSMENT
District Plan student success goal Enhance all measures of student success Help students identify & achieve their educational goals – including transfer to four-year institutions, job and career preparation & placement, basic skills improvement & life-long learning GOALS & OBJECTIVES FOR STUDENT SUCCESS

In recent years, LAVC has addressed the following elements of District Plan Plan for student success Basic skills Equity outcomes Use of technology for student success All elements will be addressed in as part of Education Master Plan due out in Summer 2008 GOALS & OBJECTIVES FOR STUDENT SUCCESS
LAVC’s student success initiative recommended goal: Enhance Student Success Objectives* Increase retention rates (in course, first-term, and first-year) Increase number of transfers/degrees/certificates Increase number of students successfully transitioning from basic- to college-level courses Increase equity across all student groups in course-completion, retention & degree-completion rates Increase number of students accessing instructional and student success technologies *Specific percentages for each objective will be addressed in Educational Master Plan due out in Summer 2008 GOALS & OBJECTIVES FOR STUDENT SUCCESS
Accountability Reporting for Community Colleges (ARCC)/AB1417 performance measures Percentage of first-time students who transferred to four-year college; earned AA/AS; or earned Certificate Percentage of first-time students who earned at least 30 units Percentage of first-time fall students with minimum of six units who returned in subsequent fall term Completion rates: vocational courses GOALS & OBJECTIVES FOR STUDENT SUCCESS
