What did we want to do? • Develop a Writing Center program at Wachter Middle School • Assist students inside the classroom • Assist students after school • Develop writing skills in young students • Prepare students for upper level writing
What did we do? • Collaborated with a variety of Wachter teachers • Developed a Writing Center within the classrooms of three Wachter teachers • Assisted students with writing assignments • Provided additional one on one attention to students • Instilled interest for writing in young students
Struggles • Contacting Wachter teachers • Scheduling • Uninterested or disrespectful students • Appointment cancellations
Accomplishments • Productive lessons for the students • Increased understanding of key terms • Advanced opportunities to work with students • Positive influence in the classroom environment • Opportunity to work with students on IEPs • Increased understanding of middle school teaching strategies • Teacher and student perspectives • Work mostly limited to two teachers
Changes? • More productive scheduling • Implement after-school assistance • Consistent appointments • Review lesson before arriving at Wachter
