  1. Food for Thought… • How does Adam and Eve’s disobedience in the Garden affect your life today?

  2. Adam and Eve Disobeyed God Part 2 - The Effects…

  3. Introduction • Today’s lesson… • One of the most critical events in all human history • The long-lasting effects of the Adam and Eve’s disobedience

  4. Review • How did Satan convince Eve to “take the first bite” of the forbidden fruit? • Came to Eve in disguise • Got Eve to question God’s Truth by twisting the Truth • Called God a liar and Eve believed the lie • How does Satan work today?

  5. Eve and Adam Eat the Fruit • Read Genesis 3:6 • Who was deceived and ate the fruit? • Why did Adam eat? • Between Adam and Eve, which would God be more upset with? Why?

  6. Eve and Adam Eat the Fruit • Though neither had an excuse for their behavior, Adam had less of a legitimate excuse! • Adam turned from God without any temptation or deception • He simply made the choice without input from anyone else! PRIDE took over!!

  7. Eve and Adam Eat the Fruit • Adam decided for himself what was good and what was evil • Instead of God first, it was ADAM first! • Instead of remaining under God’s authority, he wanted to be HIS OWN BOSS! • Can you identify with Adam’s attitude?

  8. Effects of their Disobedience • Read Genesis 3:7-10 • What effects of their disobedience did Adam and Eve experience immediately? • Their minds were no longer under God’s control, their minds were separated from His. • Nakedness, Embarrassment, Fear • They tried to now provide for their own needs • Made coverings, live independent, tried to make themselves acceptable to God

  9. Effects of their Disobedience • What did God say would happen if they ate? • Recall: God is a finisher! He will do what He says He will do! His Word is unbreakable! • So, why did Adam and Eve now fear of God? • This fear resulted from their separation! They were no longer of one mind with God!

  10. Check for Understanding • How did it happen that both Eve and Adam ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil? • What immediate effects did they experience after eating the fruit? • Why is it so hard for mankind (you) to live in obedience to God’s Word?

  11. Effects of their Disobedience • What is your feeling toward a good friend who has betrayed you? Do you want to be with that person?

  12. Effects of their Disobedience • The same is true with God. When Adam and Eve betrayed Him, He no longer desired to be in their presence. Their sin separated them from God. • Isaiah 59:2 says • “…your iniquities [sins] have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you”

  13. GOD MAN GOD MAN Perfect Friendship And Fellowship Effects of their Disobedience • As a result of their sin, Romans 6:23 says • “…the wages of sin is death…[separation from God]” • Mankind was now opposing God!

  14. Effects of their Disobedience • Adam and Eve were now separated from God! • Their bodies would eventually die • They would eventually go to the place of everlasting punishment which God prepared for Satan and the evil spirits. • This will be explained much later………

  15. GOD MAN Effects of their Sin • Just like Adam and Eve, people today try to make themselves acceptable to God. What do these attempt look like? • Become church members • Be good parents • Try to be law-abiding citizens • Do “good things” for others

  16. GOD MAN Fear • Read 1 John 4:18 • How does this verse relate to the story of Adam and Eve? • How does this verse relate to you today? • How is “worry” similar to “fear?” • What kind of things do we worry about today? How does one escape these worries?

  17. Check for Understanding • How/why did Adam and Eve’s disobedience separate them from God? • What was God’s view of man after he disobeyed God? • Do you struggle with fear (worrying to much)?

  18. From God’s Point of View • What should be God’s next step in terms of Adam and Eve? • Should He overlook the disobedience? • Should He discipline them slightly and give them another chance? • Should He kill them and forget all about the human race?

  19. From God’s Point of View • How should God deal with you when you are disobedient? • How does God deal with your disobedience? • How did God how grace toward Adam and Eve? How does He show grace towards you?

  20. Conclusion • God established order for our good! • God’s Word will not fail. It will all be fulfilled, as much already has been! God is a finisher and keeps His Word. • God is gracious and merciful.

  21. Conclusion • Satan is a liar and a murderer. He is God’s enemy and works today to keep all humans from God! • Satan will use any method He can to keep us from God’s Word. • Satan will use any method He can to confuse us about God’s Word.

  22. Review • Questions 10 through 14 on handout.
