Aims of the Hubs • Create & lead a network of schools • Identify effective & best practice • Devise the agenda for development, research & creation of new practices • Record & transfer lessons learned • Provide support to schools on implementation • Lead discussion & professional development across a wide range of schools
Curriculum (some developing practice) • Is the 3+2 curriculum model appropriate to all learner’s needs? • 2+3 to allow fast movement through KS3 to longer preparation for GCSE • 2+2+1 with an extra year after early GCSE with possibilities such as AS, vocational tasters or an enriched year • 1+2+2 with a transitional year with literacy consolidation or learning to learn type courses • 2+1+2 with a break year before GCSE to conduct extended project work
Focus for curriculum D+R hub • Looking to make curriculum changes in Maths September 2007 • Choose current year 7 to conduct research on • Observe a number of year 7 maths lessons • Poll students on/discuss favourite maths lessons • Assess the learning styles • Trial NC KS3 tests • Share existing good practice/issues and curriculum plans
Focus for curriculum D+R hub • Look at the development of new courses e.g two tier GCSE, DIMA, Statistics • Develop resources that support the learning styles and promote independent learning • Look at possible timetable implications for personalised pathways in mathematics

The potential for New Technologies • VLE and electronic student polling through software such as “school poll” • Smart boards,Videos, screen corder • Interactive assessment of learning styles • Use of digital cameras in evaluating the school environment • Interactive assessment of learning styles • Skype and other Internet Freebies such as “ten quick questions”
