Segment Definitions • New player: First year person has ever played tennis • Rejoiner: Started playing tennis again in the past 12 months after having stopped playing for at least 1 year • Continuing player: Has played tennis for more than 1 year • Frequent player: Has played tennis 21 or more times in past year • Total play occasions: Total number of times all types of players play tennis in a year
Key Findings • Total participation is up again this year (+7%) to nearly 27 million players from 25.1 million in 2007 • The number of frequent players is up (7%) to 5.62 million, from 5.25 in 2007 • Continuing players stand at 15.1 million (up 9% over 2007) • 5.9 million former players came back to the game in 2008, up 7% (+400,000) over a year ago • Total play occasions broke the 600 million mark for the first time (up 13% over 2007)
