Kindergarten Mission Statement • We recognize that children grow at varying rates • We support opportunities for individual growth • We stimulate social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development • We allow children to learn through hands-on exploration of their physical world • We provide a creative and stimulating environment where every child is made to feel safe, secure, and important!
Kindergarten Alternatives • Half-daywill offer morning and afternoon programs • Full-dayprogram • children will attend regular school day • applicants chosen by lottery if numbers exceed available space • tuition based • Half to full-daycombination (Transition) • half-day until mid-year • tuition based
Financial Information • Cost will be $225 per month • May pre-pay tuition or pay monthly • Tuition covers only costs incurred in running program (salaries, materials, and overhead) • Tuition price compares favorably to area programs Tuition assistance will be made available to any family in need.
Financial Data • FDK Program must be self-sufficient • Cost of $225 per month, paid on the first of each month, September 1 through June 1 • Breakdown: (Using average class size of 20) 20 x $2250 = $45,000 Teacher: $35,500 Aide: $7,600 Materials: $840 Administrative, Utilities, Custodial, Equity:$1060
Small class sizes for both programs • All classes have both a teacher and classroom aide • Identical curriculum content offered
What Does the Research Say • Early studies showed mixed results • 1990’s research indicates improved academic achievement/improved social skills for SOME children enrolled in full-day • Teachers in full-day programs do NOTfind that children who attend half-day are disadvantaged in first grade.
All research concludes… What children do during the day is more important than the length of their day.
Kindergarten Curriculum • Taught by skilled staff with strong commitment to professional development • All curriculum aligned with Massachusetts State Frameworks • Encompasses social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development and fosters self-esteem • Utilizes flexible small groupings and individual attention, with limited whole class instruction • Provides developmentally appropriate activities that allow for hands-on exploration

“Our first priority in Kindergarten is the children we teach…even more than what we teach them. We want to help all our students to experience the joys of learning to learn, and of accepting challenges so that they may become lifelong learners.” Anne Dunn Retired Kindergarten Teacher
