National Standard Instructors • National qualification • HCC - one of the first LAs to be accredited as an Instructor Training Provider (ITP) • Instructor training – 4 day course plus mentoring sessions • Over 40 active paid instructors plus volunteers • 5,000 children trained to Level 2 each year
School Cycle Training Programme • Most courses combine Levels 1 and 2 • Run in Years 5 and 6 • 5 sessions • HCC facilitates courses • Herts Direct information including on-line booking of summer holiday courses
Funding • There is no budget to provide cycle training free of charge • Schools / parents have paid for the service for many years (HCC does not charge for courses run by volunteers) • Since 2006 DfT has provided funding to encourage more Level 2 cycle training
The Future • Cycle training is now a year round activity • Provided by a bank of nationally qualified instructors • Continue to innovate to provide an even better service to Hertfordshire
