FIFA Requirments • Only used in goal situations • Must be accurate • Referee notified of the goal within 1 second • Indication of goal only communicated to Referee FIFA Rules Website
Two Systems Hawk-Eye • GoalRef • 6 Cameras focused on each net • Predicts where ball will go • Notifies ref within 1 second via watch • Electromagnetic induction • Ball has special copper coils in it • Notifies ref within 1 second via watch
Advocates • Modernize sport • More accurate calls • Reduces human error factor • Referees can overrule the technology
