  2. Interdependence: The goal cannot be obtained without the cooperation of all group members.

  3. Cooperative goal structure • Equality for all members • Give teams decision-making power • Individual accountability

  4. Synergy: The group performs at a higher level than individuals could alone.

  5. Negative Synergy: The group decision is worse than what the individuals would have come up with. Bad decisions build on bad decisions. • Not enough information • Frozen mind set • Resistant to change

  6. Ripple effect: One person has a great effect on the whole system.

  7. Strategies for handling social loafers: • Make group climate cooperative. Eliminate competition. • Change communication pattern with the social loafer. • Ask the slacker directly for his/her input and help • Whole group confronts the slacker directly • Talk to a person in authority
