  8. PIR Introduction FINETEC Corporation Plant Division Dec. 2011

  9. A What is PIR ? B Application C Certification & Test report D Main Reference CONTENTS

  10. A. What is PIR ? 1. Polyurethane 2. Polyisocyanurate(PIR) 3. PIR Production Process 4. Production Capacities 5. Compare with Continuous and Discontinuous Production 6. Containerized continuous Foaming & Cutting line on Project site

  11. Flame Membrane (Window) ( Foam Cell structure) <Mixing> <Resin> <MDI> <Product> <Foaming> 1. What is Polyurethane ? POLYURETHANE FOAM has ☞ the foam structure with chemical composition like “-NHCOO-” among molecules Cell

  12. 2. Polyisocyanurate (PIR) Isocyanurate Reaction (Trimerization Reaction) Trimerization 3 R-N=C=O Catalyst / Heat Isocyanate Isocyanurate R N O O C C N N R R C O • * PIR have • Heat stability by the ring structure made from isocyanurate • Little smoke & excellent non –combustible, due to low oxygen Index, • Excellent thermal conductivity with fine cell by trimerization • At least, more then 30 years can be guaranteed under max. • continuous operating temperatures as -163 ℃.

  13. 3. PIR Production Process LAB TEST PROPERTY TEST AGING BLENDING CUTTING FOAMING PACKING

  14. Lab Test & Property Test DEVELOPMENT OF PU RAW METERIAL

  15. Lab Test & Property Test * PIPE COVER TEST REPORT (PIR)*

  16. Comparison table between ASTM C 591 Requirements and FINEfoam 140

  17. System Blending BLENDING OF POLYOL, BLOWING AGENT, CATALYST etc

  18. System Blending ISOCYANATE BLOWING AGENT SILICONE POLYOL CATALYST BLENDING A B PUR / PIR

  19. Foaming PIR BLOCK FOAMING AT CONTAINERIZED CONTINUOUS LINE

  20. Aging AGING OF PUR/PIR FOAM (Minimum 15 days)

  21. PIR Contour Cutting CONTOUR CUTTING FOR PIPE COVER WITH CNC WIRE CUTTING MACHINE

  22. Packing * Protection 1ST : Carton box or Wooden Pallet 2nd : Air Bubbled Plastic film wrapping

  23. 4. Production Capacities * Based on one shift

  24. 5. Compare with Continuous & Discontinuous Production * Uniformity is the most important point for cryogenic insulation * Only uniform PIR can prevent the icing, crack & vapor permeability * Almost of LNG project in the world have used Continuous type’s PIR

  25. Discontinuous Product Air bubbles Hard skin * Molded type makes irregular properties because it has produced one by one at its molds. * It makes a lot of air bubbles on the surface and inside of PIR/PUR and as well as it makes hard skin.

  26. Discontinuous Product Icing • Cryogenic insulation is too much sensitive, some damaged point even small air bubbles, making an icing outside of insulation material. • Some Projects have used discontinuous type’s PIR to their own Project and it make some icing on the insulated Pipe. • Air bubble makes a weak point on the PIR and this point receive concentrated stress/load then make a crack finally.

  27. 6. Containerized continuous Foaming & Cutting line at Project site

  28. Advantage of containerized continuous foaming & cutting at Project site ☞Cost saving ☞On time delivery ☞ Easy the production plan control according to site situation ☞ Quality is checked & controlled by Owner at production site ☞ Final product can be stored in production shelter ☞ Easy movable to any Project site

  29. B. Application of PIR * LNG / LPG / LEG Terminal facilities Equipment Insulation Pipe Insulation

  30. Application * LNG & LPG Receivingterminal Pipe & Equipment Insulation
